November at Last

In Smalltown, Hurricane Sandy was nothing more than a night of rain. We got lucky and now it’s November. I finally made it. While I don’t have the amount of money I would like to have by now, I’m just happy to see this month arrive.

I ended October with $15,229. This was supposed to be the month where I finally put an offer down on a prospective property Charlie (PPC), but I don’t think that can happen. I can still look around at the end of the month, but I won’t have the 30k that I want to put a serious offer down until December. Sucks, but there’s really nothing I can do about it. This is gonna be my comeback month, where I get 5 paychecks from the jobs, an extra $200 from Carver, and my pension from the old security job in Brooklyn should come in as well. I’m hoping for a huge month, but I really don’t know what’s going to happen. The National Grid bill for the upstairs unit of property Alpha should be a bit higher, and I must have my HVAC guy Gonzalez take care of a minor thermostat issue at property Beta. Other than that, water bills, and the $200 tax payment, I should have no other expenses for the month… real estate-wise.

November is also the month where I finally go back to Brooklyn. From the night of the 19th until Thanksgiving night, I’ll be in sweet-ass Brooklyn for the first time in over 2 years. My God how I miss my town. Now the plan was supposed to be my old college buddy Nino would pick me up from the airport and we hang out until Tuesday night, when he will drop me off at Brooklyn Mike’s house. The problem is that I haven’t spoken to him in a while. I call and get a voicemail and his work phone is all of a sudden busy when we’re used to talking every day. When I feel someone is ignoring me, I don’t bother trying to find out why. I just cut them off. I’ve already erased all of Nino’s numbers from my phone and I’ll just spend more time at Brooklyn Mike’s house. Financially, this just means that I will have to spend extra money on a cab from the airport to Brooklyn Mike’s place.

(A quick note: Whether it’s a girlfriend, a best friend or a family member, my rule has always been the same. If someone is mad at me and gives me the cold shoulder instead of approaching me and resolving the issue like normal mammals, I just cut it off and move on. If my predictions are correct and I have a limited time left before my cancer returns and kills me, am I really gonna spend that time playing childish games? I don’t have the time, interest, or the patience… especially with property Charlie on the horizon. People are not as important as they think they are, especially to someone like me. I lose interest too quickly)

I’m really hoping for some good surprises this month or, at the very least, a smooth November with NO surprises. I’ll need all the help I can get in reaching the 30k mark and finally putting an offer down on my very first commercial property. At the very latest, I should have property Charlie before the end of February and then the countdown to paycheck retirement can begin!
